“Nikon Inc. is pleased to announce the development of the next generation full-frame, high-resolution, high-speed digital SLR cameras with the upcoming release of the highly anticipated Nikon D850.” Blah, Blah, Blah.

I have put off adding my opinion to the already numerous ones out there but have had some people asking my thoughts.  So, here it is.

Yes, it will probably be a great camera.  However, as a beginning sports photographer, it’s not much of a big deal.  It’s predecessor, the D810, is priced at around $3,000.  So, you know the D850 will be priced in similar fashion.  This puts it our of the price range for those just starting out in photography.  And of course you will need good glass, AKA lens, to pair with this fancy camera and that will set you back another………insert exorbitant dollar amount here.

I feel that as you enter your early stages of sports photography there are more important things to worry about.  Maybe put this camera on your vision board but for now grab your current gear and get out and shoot.  Work on your basics: exposure, composition, etc.  These things are more important than spending $3k on a new camera.
